This is what my mom had to say about her time at St. Vinny’s ~ She had Dr. James Nealon & she was always in a ward with 4/5 other girls. She loved being there & considered it a retreat ~ she got to kick back for a week, have someone cook all her meals & eat them in bed. Everyday the Sisters of Charity would come down the hall ~ bells ringing, candles lit & deliver daily communion in enormous bonnets fastened by huge bows under the chin. She went to the chapel daily & prayed for everyone in the hospital. She always had a bed by the window where she could see into the apartment of an artist who painted til the wee hours of the night & is still dying to know what was on his canvass (btw, she took up water coloring in her mid-50′s & now paints on a daily basis). After she delivered me, number four, the nuns gave her an ugly robe & told her not to come back ~ so like a good Catholic girl, she moved out to Long Island & popped out one more on the sly.
This is where the artist lived ~ Northeast corner of 7th Ave & Greenwhich Ave
This is the room she stayed in 4 years in a row.
She had to see it to believe it. It's a sad day for New York ~ If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere
This is my Mom ~ back in the '60's she schleped down from the Bronx to deliver children @ St Vinny's b/c they were the best in town.
Thank you! Dr. James Nealon & all of St. Vincent's Staff for delivering 4 of my beautiful children ~ Alicia McCarvill ~ 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965
We met a fabulous nurse who went to nursing school at St. Vinny's back in the 70's & worked there as well.

This amazing Snow Giant was sent to me by my good pal Laura Spector Taub ~ At over 10′ tall, he stands on 74th Street b/w 2nd & 3rd. I’m thinking we could set him up with the Statue of LIberty
Thanx Laura!

The “Snow Hurricane” was quite mellow today ~ well at least compared to Governor Patterson’s new political storm ~ both are still brewing but I would imagine that the latter will require a bigger shovel…
