I was in Chinatown yesterday & this guy was standing around worshiping the sun so I randomly started taking pix of him, next thing you know he takes off his shoes, socks, fast-forward ~ he strips down to the full monty, 40 degrees, wind kickin’ & proceeds to walk thru Chinatown. What puzzles me is that the NYPD watched the whole unveiling while sitting in their unmarked car, got out, put the guy against the vehicle & then stood around as he sauntered off. He casually hopped over the fence & moseyed thru the park & headed south several blocks. I didn’t have time to see the whole scenario pan out but I can’t understand why they didn’t put the pale fella in the car while they had him. Throughout his stroll, half the people who encountered him laughed & the other half just kept walking. One guy said with a thick accent, “Only in America. In my country, they would’ve shot him dead on the street.” I got a lot more of this madness on film but since the poor guy is most likely pazzo, I won’t be publishing any full frontals or pix his face ~ Instead I’ll say a little prayer for his peace of mind & his cold behind.

The jubilance & warmth that was spread throughout the streets of Chinatown New York in honor of the Lunar New Year pleasantly caught me off guard today. I sprang tears of joy over the strong bonds that were displayed amongst multiple generations. I howled with laughter over the complete lack of structure. You see there is no single uniform parade nor is there a parade route, instead, it’s a bunch of spontaneous little parades all running around Chinatown at the same time. Occasionally two parades will come barreling down the street in opposite directions forcing one group to march backwards or risk a head on collision & the best part is, no one seems to mind. I’m so grateful for all the Chinatown residents who shared their stories, traditions & extended their hearts to me today ~ 恭喜发财 ~ Gong Hei Fard Cho ~ Happy New Year!

Hector is a member of the Puerto Rican Schwinn Club of the Lower East Side where their bikes are a labor of love adorned with religious & cultural icons & pimped out with blaring stereos, overkill horns & flashing lights. Most of the PRSC members are in their 50′s & 60′s & are regulars at Frank’s Bike Shop

Pinky
Now I never would’ve pegged him as a pinky man which just goes to show you that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover.

This poor SOB was sitting under this NOWHERE awning, trying to eat a piece of pizza & didn’t even know it because he was so wasted. I never get used to seeing these guys & my heart goes out to them.
